Photo of the Day - Shelbi in Lingerie

How I got the shot:

For this set with Shelbi, I used a purple gel in the key light (camera center-left, pointed down toward her) through hexagonal softbox with a grid to focus the light, a second light behind her with a simple metal cone and a purple gel (which looks a little reddish through her red hair), and a pattern of diagonal lines from my Westcott Optical Spot. You can see the slight variation on color on Shelbi’s face contrasted with her skin; I find that for many skin tones, the purple gel produces a very natural-looking color that pairs well with reds, oranges, and yellows.

I do several steps of color grading in my editing process, so all of my photos are a mixture of analog and digital artistry. But the retouching on Shelbi is, as with all my models and clients, very minimal — just a bit of skin smoothing and blemish removal. I edit my photos using Capture One Pro, Luminar Neo, and — if I need more detailed skin retouching — Affinity Photo.

But hey, that could be you instead of Shelbi. If you’re in (or plan to be in) Tulsa and you’ve seen enough plain-old boudoir, a photo shoot with me is something radically different and creative. Tap below to start planning your very own session!
